Bloodless Medicine and Surgery
The University of Rochester Medical Center is the premier hospital in Rochester with a formal Patient Blood Management program. As part of this initiative our institution offers safe and effective transfusion-free medical and surgical techniques. Our mission is to improve patient outcomes through optimal transfusion management utilizing a standard of care based on the most current clinical evidence and outcomes.
Bloodless medicine and surgery can reduce the risks of blood transfusions, improve patient outcomes, and respect the needs of patients for who elect to refuse blood transfusion. We also provide education sessions and materials for medical professionals about how patient blood management can improve medical and surgical outcomes for their patients.
Our team is available to meet in person or over the phone to discuss and clarify questions on component transfusions and treatments in order for your healthcare provider to tailor treatment to your preferences.
