Dr. Bahadir Yildiz will present 'Distance between tumor cells and the peritoneal surface to predict the risk of peritoneal metastases in colon cancer'.  There is accumulating data that the pT4a subcategory of colon cancer is diagnostically less straightforward than often assumed. I will talk about an article that was recently published that shows measurement of the distance between tumor cells and the peritoneal surface can be used to predict the risk of peritoneal metastases as well help in differentiating between T3 and T4a.

Dr. Kyla Jorgenson will be presenting 'Wischnewski spots: Hypothermia in the hospital'.  In the forensic community, multiple brown-black lesions seen in the stomach at autopsy have long been associated with hypothermia deaths and more recently with deaths due to diabetic ketoacidosis.  Anecdotal evidence and conjecture has lead to scientific experimentation to try to elucidate the underlying mechanism of these spots, however ultimately the answer is multifactorial in nature.  A hospital autopsy case is used to provide context for the current understanding in the literature with a look towards future avenues for research.

Dr. Goldman will be presenting 'Complement Activation in Human Myocardial Injury: Actor or Reactor?'. Actvation of the complement cascade has been identified in a variety of human mycardial diseases including transplantation associated injury, acute myocardial infarction, myocarditis, and sudden cardiac death. The significance of complement activation in these conditions likely varies withclinical context and is not completely understood.

'Recent Developments for HER2-Low Breast Cancer' presented by Cansu Karakas, MD. Over the past two decades, the availability of HER2-targeted therapies has significantly improved clinical outcomes for patients with HER2-positive breast cancer. However, between 40%-50% of the patients have tumors with low HER2 expression for whom currently available HER2-targeted treatments have not proven effective. The unique mechanism and clinical benefits of newly developed Antibody Drug Conjugates have demonstrated substantial clinical antitumor acitivity with a manageable safety profile in patients with advanced/metastatic HER2-Low Breast Cancers.

'Contribution of Structural Biology to Vaccine Design: Can We Predict Our Way Out of the Next Pandemic?' presented by Chauncey Syposs, DO. This presentation is an update on his grand rounds on Alphafold from last year, as well as a discussion of some of the applications of this technology. Special presentation is paid to structural vaccinology.

'Clinical Implications of Microscopic Colitis-Like Polyps' presented by Dr. Mark Ettel. Microscopic colitis (MC) is generally identified on random colon biopsies performed for chronic diarrhea, but rarely incidental polyps have histologic features of MC. I present data and results gathered from comparing patients with MC-like polyps to control patients with conventional polyps, as well as clinical implications regarding significance and management of these findings.
