Overview

The goal of our research is to identify and implement evidence-based strategies for supporting patients and families managing chronic childhood illnesses, with a particular focus on asthma. To date, our work has explored:

  • Experiences with home asthma care, including the ability to differentiate between inhaled medications and the caregiver-to-child transition in responsibility for using preventive medications;
  • Caregiver and Primary Care Provider experiences with clinic-based asthma education;
  • The use of health literacy-informed approaches for delivering patient-centered asthma education, with active inclusion of both children and caregivers as learners; and
  • The use of telehealth technology to facilitate the delivery of guideline-based preventive asthma care for children transitioning between acute care and home settings.
