Dr. Abell always takes his time with you. I've never felt rushed. He is thorough and reviewing my medical record information and always asks if I have other concerns outside of the purpose for each visit. If I have a concern, he is always reachable via my chart or in speaking with his staff. The staff at the front desk are always very courteous and friendly. I don't normally see this provider. I went because I was pretty sure I had strep throat given my symptoms, but when I got there instead I was question about why I didn't take a home COVID test first and why I wouldn't think this was the flu. He seemed to give me a strep test only as I seemed to insist on in and then told me he expected it to come out negative but that the test gives a lot of false negatives. So the rapid test came back negative but when it came back from the lab I did indeed have a strep infection. He did not start antibiotics until 48 hours later and I suffered greatly during those 48 hours! I don't understand why I would pay for 2 tests, one that is known to have a lot of false negatives and one that seems to be the real test. Seems to me you need to get the labs to process the real test a bit fast so patients could have relief quicker.

Even though he is not accepting new patients, I only had to wait three days for him to see me because I was a former patient who moved out of state. When I didn't feel I was getting the care I needed in my new location, I contacted Dr. Abell through myChart for help. His nurse called me even though it was after hours and told me to set up my appointment the next day.

Dr. Abell is an amazing primary care doctor. He is knowledgeable, caring, on top of medical advancements, and knows my case well. I feel incredibly fortunate to have him as my physician/care coordinator. In fact, in seeing and hearing about the excellent care I have received, my daughter and son-in-law have become his patients as well.
