Dr. Syed was born and raised in Ontario, Canada and received her undergraduate Degree in Chemistry and Biochemistry from the University on Toronto. She earned her MD from Saba University School of Medicine and then completed the residency in Internal Medicine from Rochester General Hospital. She started her career as an academic hospitalist at Mount Sinai Hospital at the Icahn School of Medicine in Manhattan NY. She then became the Director of Hospital Medicine at New York-Presbyterian Lawrence Hospital. After growing a thriving hospitalist division Dr. Syed moved to Stonybrook Long Island and became the Clerkship site director at Mather Hospital, Northwell Health. After working in both administration and academics Dr. Syed realized her passion for working with medical students. When she returned back to Rochester, NY she came to University of Rochester to continue working with medical students and residents. She has been actively involved in various teaching activities for medical students from 1st to 4rth year students. For her efforts, Dr. Syed received the honor of the ‘Student Teaching Award’. After years of practice of primary care/hospitalist medicine, Dr. Syed has also developed a passion for primary prevention and getting to the ‘source’ of medical pathology.
