I have always liked y care provider and don't want to change. But I think that over time, our ease and familiarity of patient/c.p has caused a bit of a breakdown in empathy for my concerns. Every patient should advocate for themselves, not just follow orders without question. I find U of R care extremely good and its providers well-educated. But patients need to be able to ask questions about side effects of treatment without being made to feel that they have no business questioning that treatment. Most people know how foods and meds affect their own bodies. And I'm no conspiracy theorist obsessed with vaccinations and Rxs. I have great respect for most all medical intervention when it's deemed needed. But as a person living on their own, I need to know how a vax or med will affect me so that I can be prepared and arrange for help If needed. It's not rocket science, as the saying goes. Vaxs and meds don't affect everyone In the same way. The bottom line Is, I don't like being made to feel a moron just because I asked the side effects of a vax or daily med. I rarely take them, even OTC stuff. I have a good reason and a right to ask about what I'm putting in my body. I get that millions of people take a statin daily with no side effects. That doesn't preclude a patient to find out how it might physically affect them.
