I performed subspecialty training in vascular/interventional radiology and have been on the faculty in the Department of Radiology (now Imaging Sciences) since 1994. I have served as Chair since 2003. Our Department has an active, research intensive Division of Angio-Interventional Radiology, with 8 primary faculty actively involved in a wide variety of specialized interventional procedures, including transcatheter arterial chemoembolisation, transjugular intrahepatic portosystemic shunt (TIPS) placement, core or fine needle biopsies, and percutaneous and intraoperative radiofrequency ablations of liver masses. As Department Chair I am committed to nurturing a strong department with a vibrant research component. Over the last 10 years the department has grown to where we now have 65 FTE clinical faculty and 10 Ph.D. researchers. Our examination volume has grown from 250,000 exams to over 550,000 examinations per year. We have just hired an NIH funded clinical researcher as the next division chief of neuroradiology. The department's research focus is in the area of neuroradiology including post traumatic brain injury, stroke, diffusion tensor imaging and 3D analysis. As chairman, my current focus is on imaging information technology both locally and regionally with an emphasis on enterprise integration.
