Dr. Kristin Skinner is an Associate Professor of Surgery and Oncology. She earned a B. S. degree with Molecular Genetics from the University of Rochester and received her M. D. degree form the Johns Hopkins University. She completed her training in general surgery and fellowship in surgical oncology at the University of California, Los Angeles. She then spent several years on the faculty at the University of Southern California before moving east. She spent almost four years at New York University as the Chief of Surgical Oncology and Director of the Multidisciplinary Breast Cancer Program before being recruited here to help develop the Multidisciplinary Breast Program here. She has focused her practice on caring for men and women with breast disease for more than 15 years.

Beyond her clinical practice, Dr. Skinner is also actively involved in clinical and translational research evaluating biologic markers of breast cancer risk, possible molecular diagnostic markers in breast cancer, the application on intraductal approaches to breast cancer diagnosis an treatment, and the potential for less invasive forms of treatment for ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast. She has received funding from the American Cancer Society, the NIH, the Department of Defense Breast Cancer Research Program, and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.

Dr. Skinner has been named one of America's Top Doctors for Cancer by Castle Connelly for the past 10 years, and has been a member of the Mastery of Breast Surgery Program of the American Society of Breast Surgeons since it started in 2009. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and is certified by the American Board of Surgery. She is a member of over twenty professional societies including the Association of Academic Surgeons, Society of University Surgeons, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the American Association for Cancer Research, and the American Society of Clinical Oncology. Dr. Skinner believes that it is essential to pay attention to quality of care and outcomes and regularly reviews the care provided at Comprehensive Breast Care at Pluta to ensure that the highest quality of care is provided to our patients, and that our outcomes are at least as good as, if not better than, those of our peers locally and nationally.

Her philosophy is that each person affected by breast cancer is unique and that by using a multidisciplinary approach that combines the expertise of specialists in all aspects of breast care, a plan can be developed that is tailored to the individual needs of each patient, ensuring the best possible outcomes.
