About Me

Mitchell Chess, MD is a Professor of Imaging Sciences and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center and is Chief of Pediatric Imaging. Mitchell Chess, MD is a Professor of Imaging Sciences and Pediatrics at the University of Rochester Medical Center and is Chief of Pediatric Imaging. He obtained his medical degree at Columbia College of Physicians & Surgeons in NY, NY. He completed his Transitional Year Internship at Hackensack Medical Center in Hackensack, NJ. He then went on to complete residency in Diagnostic Radiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center, in Rochester, NY. He completed a fellowship in Neuroradiology at the University of Rochester Medical Center and holds a lifetime certification in Diagnostic Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. He holds a Certificate of Added Qualification in Pediatric Radiology.

Dr. Chess has worked extensively via teleradiology with many sites in both New York and Pennsylvania. He has served at various times as Chairman at several area hospitals, including Clifton Springs Hospital, St. James Mercy Hospital in Hornell, Olean General Hospital, St. Jerome's Hospital in Batavia and Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport. With his prior experience in department administration, outpatient imaging and teleradiology he brings a fresh and unique set of skills to the Imaging Sciences Department.

Academically, Dr. Chess has worked collaboratively with surgery, orthopedic surgery, and the emergency department to develop projects, leading to multiple publications and presentations. He is currently leading a multicenter study on the optimal management of intussusception in children. In addition to publishing on his academic work, he has written chapters for both Obstetrics and Neonatal Board review textbooks.

While a specialist in Pediatric and Neuro Imaging, Dr. Chess also has extensive experience with fetal imaging, including obstetric ultrasound in which he is certified to assess early fetal screening as well as fetal MRI. He was also an integral team member in working toward Golisano Children's Hospital becoming a Level 1 Trauma Center.

Dr Chess is a sought after educator, giving lectures on a variety of topics focusing on Pediatric imaging.
