When Dr. Wang entered the room he mentioned it was my two year anniversary since my surgery. Then he examined my tongue, nose and ears and told me everything looked good. He also told me the small lump on my tongue is a normal post surgical condition and that it is still soft. He said if it was hard it would be a concern. He also said he would see me in 6 months. However, if I noticed anything different, I should make an appointment.

Dr. Wang stated enthusiastically I am approaching the end of the crucial 2 year period in [...] 2024 and if all continues to go well I will see him every 6 months for a check up. He noticed my tongue was more flexible than the last time. He appreciated my work on my tongue exercises. He also informed me of proposed future care should my tongue cancer return which would include some form of chemo/radiation.

Communication with Dr. Wang has always been easy to ask questions and get answers. I told him how I do my tongue exercises facing a mirror while looking for signs of recurrence of the cancer. I asked him, If It does return would It be In the same place? He explained that IF It returns and It Is In another place It would be a NEW case. He also said that my legion was VERY small and he accompanied that statement with a hand gesture. He finished by saying that within the different stages of cancer there are sub stages and mine was early stage 1.

I asked Dr. Wang to repeat the schedule of observation appointments and he patiently said I would see him every 2 months for the first year and every 3 months the second year because if this cancer returns it is usually in the first 2 years. I will be under observation for a total of 5 years. He also reminded me of the importance of using sunscreen and was happy to know I use it daily because I do not want this cancer to return. He said I might be considered a "model patient for this office."

I always feel at ease after my visit with Dr. Wang. On this visit he checked my ears, nose and mouth as well as my neck. This article included the flu shot as a possible cause and he explained this condition can not be tied to one element and now that we are in the season of flu and Covid it would be best to be protected.
