I believe that it's important to know my patients as individuals to understand the situational circumstance and personality that drives their treatment goals. Multiple myeloma is a lifelong journey and a strong partnership with my patients is essential to achieving the best quality of care. I have a strong interest in clinical research and like to offer my patients a variety of clinical trial options and treatments based on the most recent data. I have a dedicated support team, so that we can offer patients a team with real myeloma-specific expertise.
In my research laboratory, I am particularly interested in understanding the mechanisms that allow multiple myeloma to develop. I have created a system that lets us mimic in a laboratory, the growth of cancer cells that become multiple myeloma. By studying disease progression, my ultimate goal is to develop therapies to prevent multiple myeloma.
Outside of work, I love to grow things -- flowers, vegetables, orchids, animals, children. I have gotten some of my best gardening tips from my patients.
Conditions I treat:
- Multiple myeloma
- Other plasma cell disorders

I've been treated by Dr. Lipe for the past three years as she monitored [...]. My blood work recently indicated significant changes that prompted Dr. Lipe to schedule me for further diagnostic testing. Within a week of receiving test test results confirming that my disease had now progressed to actionable [...] I was scheduled for a consult with Dr. Lipe. My wife accompanied me to the appointment and Dr. Lipe answered all the questions we had, discussed treatment options, offered her recommendations based in large part on her understanding of what is importance to me and my lifestyle. I accepted her treatment recommendations without hesitation and that day immediately started chemotherapy. I feel very grateful to have had such attention to my care that allowed me to begin treatment before the onset of symptoms or irreversible damage. I could not have received better medical care for my condition than I've had from Dr. Lipe and the hematology-oncology team.

It was easy to see why Dr. Lipe has such an amazing reputation. She was able to get me transferred to her department after getting diagnosed [...]. She got me in quickly, and had a treatment plan ready to go so we could hit the ground running and fight the cancer right away. She was extremely informative in a way that was easy to understand, and she answered all of my questions. You can tell that she really cares about her patients and wants the best for them. Her passion for this is like nothing I've ever seen, I'm extremely lucky I get to call myself her patient and I look forward to working with her more.

My recent visit included some proposed changes to my treatment plan. Dr Lipe provided excellent background, discussion, and options to consider. And a plan to move one step closer to deciding which plan is best. I have the opportunity to engage with others who have the same disease as I do (not associated with UR - through friend networks) and always make the recommendation to see Dr Lipe and team. For those who have made the switch, they have been extremely happy they did.
