Welcome To Our Program
The Charles E. Steinberg Fellowship in Psychiatry and Law is one of the original forensic psychiatry programs recognized by the ACGME. Over the past 30 years, we have established deep roots in this ever-growing discipline, and refined our clinical and didactic curriculum to best prepare fellows for the unique work of forensic psychiatry. This one-year, post-residency program leads to eligibility for Added Qualifications in Forensic Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. We offer two positions each year and training begins July 1st.
Over the course of a year, fellows not only learn to treat the forensic population, they are also exposed to the intricacies of a forensic hospital where clinical and security issues intertwine. Our training venues and partnerships are ideal for helping fellows acquire the specialized knowledge and skills needed to work in tandem with the legal system. Learning the subtle practical aspects of forensic psychiatry requires a close working relationship between the faculty and fellows. We strive to provide the necessary mentorship to guide fellows toward greater independence and confidence in decision making.
