Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
Thank you for your interest in the Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship Program at the University of Rochester Medical Center (URMC). The Fellowship prepares Fellows to provide excellent, evidenced-based clinical care to patients with complex medical conditions. The 1-year program, established in 2017, is fully accredited by the ACGME and supports one position per year. Upon successful completion, graduates are eligible to sit for the subspecialty Board exam in Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry.
Program Highlights
-
The University is the birthplace of the biopsychosocial model of care, and as a result, it is a program which has tremendous connections with all specialties throughout the University.
- The Fellow will receive specialized training in the formulation of problems in medically complex patients, psychotherapeutic and psychopharmacological interventions that take into consideration the psychological and social contexts, and the organization and implementation of effective treatment plans.
- The training will also help Fellows refine their interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate with patients and their families, with other healthcare providers, and with multi-disciplinary patient care teams.
- Fellows will become familiar with various medical and surgical clinical environments and different healthcare systems, while learning about how different systems can affect patient care.

What our fellows say...
"At the University of Rochester, trainees have the opportunity to be immersed in the biopsychosocial model of care. In a welcoming environment and alongside a group of diverse colleagues and excellent mentorship, the consultation-liaison fellow is able to harness their skills in collaboration and assessment.
As a trainee, I was exposed to several innovative models of care, while my interest and education were enthusiastically, and fully, supported in each of the sub-specialty areas. As a graduate, I look forward to and trust I can manage emerging challenges and opportunities in the field of psychiatry."

What our fellows say...
"The University of Rochester appealed to me because of its long standing history and tradition of holistic patient care. Being the birthplace of the biopsychosocial model, the culture within the University is one of collaboration.
To me, this type of environment is crucial for fostering the best care possible. As a trainee, I was confident I would develop a well-rounded set of skills if trained in this environment."
