Thumbs Up: Strong Memorial Recognized as Surgical Care Quality Leader
Excellus BlueCross BlueShield recently awarded Strong Memorial Hospital a Certificate of Excellence for achieving the overall highest performance in complying with the Surgical Care Improvement Project (SCIP) measures for 2012.
SCIP, a national quality partnership of organizations looking to improve surgical care by reducing surgical complications, zooms in on eight evidence-based practices geared at reducing surgical site infections, preventing cardiac complications, and the avoiding venous thromboembolism (blood clots).
Nine Rochester-region hospitals participating in the Hospital Performance Incentive Program (HPIP) were in the running for the honor. Scoring was based on each hospital’s degree of compliance with each of the SCIP measures.
HPIP is an Excellus BlueCross BlueShield program, one of many created and driven by insurers to encourage peak hospital performance. At Strong Memorial, we’re striving to incorporate a growing number of evidence-based process measures into daily practice with a goal of improving patient care and outcomes.
