Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center opens July 15 as the first of its kind in the region.

The new Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center is the area’s first-ever walk-in mental health clinic for young people up to the age of 18, who can show up with no prior appointment to get care. The walk-in clinic offers evaluations and interventions to help young people and their families who are experiencing acute distress. Children must be accompanied by a caregiver for the duration of the walk-in visit.

The Center is appropriate for youth:

• Who are in good behavioral control and not at immediate risk for harming self or others
• Who do not require medication to be administered on-site
• Who can be safely transported with their caregiver to the Urgent Care Center
• Who do not require immediate medical attention

Families and caregivers are encouraged, but not required, to call the UR Medicine Crisis Call Line at (585) 275-8686 where they will speak to a mental health professional before walking in to the Urgent Care Center. This can help you get access to the right care right away.

At the Brighter Days Pediatric Mental Health Urgent Care Center, our staff will be able to help with:

• Assessment and evaluation
• Safety planning
• Crisis intervention (e.g., coping skills development and coaching)
• Family-centered support
• Linkage to appropriate community and educational resources. Patients that are already in treatment with others will be referred back to them. Family voice about services, including reducing potential barriers to care, will be prioritized.

If your child is not safe to go home, or needs admission to another service, the Urgent Care Center will have the ability to support your family with that transition.

What to Bring

Families should bring the following documentation, when applicable, to their Walk-In visit:

• Insurance information
• Any legal documents related to the child, including custody paperwork
• Current medication list
• Copy of IEP or 504 plan
• Additional paperwork relevant to the child

Our Team

The clinic’s 15 patient rooms will be staffed by 30 caregivers, including mental health counselors, social workers, nurses, psychologists, case managers and support staff.
