Breastfeeding is a Journey
UR Medicine's Division of Breastfeeding & Lactation Medicine is one of the leading programs in the world.
Breastfeeding & Lactation Medicine providers leverage their medical training to address complex problems facing lactating parents and their children. Lactation consultants are experts in latching, milk production/management and family feeding behaviors. Both approaches are vital to our mission of helping families reach their own infant and child feeding goals.
Celebrate Dr. Ruth Lawrence
In celebration of her 100th birthday, we invite you to reflect on Dr. Ruth Lawrence’s legacy and to consider a donation to the Ruth A. Lawrence Educational Fund.
We understand that families come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, gender-identities and physiologies. We have unique expertise in understanding the different opportunities and challenges that face the diverse families we see today. We are dedicated to helping families with their breastfeeding and lactation journeys, while also educating providers, trainees, and employees on ways to better serve our patients.
UR Medicine Breastfeeding is committed to helping every family reach their full potential in health and wellbeing through human milk.
- We believe in a goals-oriented approach: Because many barriers prevent families from exclusively breastfeeding, we seek to help families achieve their own infant and child feeding goals – whether for exclusivity, duration or the use of infant formula.
- We believe in supporting every family who is in the process of feeding human milk: Families come in all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, gender-identities and physiologies. We have unique expertise in understanding the different opportunities and challenges that face the diverse families we see today.
- We believe in access: Our goal is to ensure that every human milk feeding family in Rochester can access our services in a timely and affordable manner. This means that in every organizational strategy we will consider diversity, equity, geography and history.
- We believe in “Meliora:” Meliora is “ever better,” and for us that means striving towards knowing as much as we can about human milk and lactation, and engaging in trainings, research, and collaborations to create new information and novel approaches that can lead clinical decisions
