Overview
Ms. Ryan is a nationally certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner who provides specialized medical care to children and teens with autism, genetic disorders, and other developmental disabilities. She has worked at the University of Rochester since 1999, and has been in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics since 2008. Her previous experience includes work in Golisano Children’s Hospital inpatient units, cognitive behavioral neurology, and pediatric neurology.
In addition to clinical care, Ms. Ryan has been involved in research studies investigating the role of medications and behavioral interventions for children with ASD and ADHD, and regularly serves as a preceptor for trainees looking to improve their skills in the care of children with developmental disabilities. She has a great deal of expertise in the use of medications to treat seizures, tics, and challenging behaviors in children with developmental disabilities.
Roles and Responsibilities

Works with families to identify behavioral symptoms that are interfering with a child’s learning, socialization, and participation in family and community

Works with families to identify strategies to address challenging behavior including medication when needed

Ensures the medications used are effective and that side effects are minimized

Supports families by assisting with identification of resources and behavioral treatments to support them at home
