Pediatric Treatment Center (PTC) (AC-6)
?Visiting the Pediatric Treatment Center
Treatment Center Hours
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. AppointmentsAll appointments are scheduled through you/your child's doctor or nurse practitioner. You/your child are scheduled for treatment at a time when your child's doctor is available. |
Location
We are located in the Ambulatory Care Facility (AC-6) adjacent to the Main Lobby of Strong Memorial Hospital.
Take the "Silver Elevators" to the 6th floor; then go to Suite B to register.
Registration
Check in with the secretary and let her know that your child has arrived. If your child is also scheduled to see his/her specialist, please let the secretary know when you register. Please have your insurance card available. Copayments are due at the time of the visit.
Check In
A clinical technologist will call you and your child in from the waiting room. He/she will obtain your child's height, weight, and vital signs. Children under 12 months of age are generally undressed before being weighed, so choose clothing that is easy to remove. Vital signs will include temperature, heart rate, breathing rate, and blood pressure. The technologist will also place an identification band on your child's wrist. You should also let the technologist know if your child is sick or has any allergies.
Length of Stay
The length of time your child will need to be in the PTC is estimated by your child's doctor or nurse practitioner and is based upon the treatment needed. This may not include the time it takes to put the IV in, any medications required before, or observation time after the treatment. Ask the doctor or the PTC staff for more information if you have concerns. Also, your child's length of stay could be extended if this is his/her first treatment, if he/she has had a reaction in the past, or if he/she develops complications with this treatment.
Meals
The PTC does not have any food services. The Better Day Buddies Program provides limited food items everyday except for Thursday. This service is not available around the holidays. You are welcome to bring a lunch with you from home or from the hospital cafeteria. There are also snack and soda machines available on the 2nd floor of the Ambulatory Care Facility and outside the cafeteria. We do have a small refrigerator and microwave for your use. Utensils, plates, and trays are available in the cafeteria. Please bring only disposable items back from the cafeteria.
Bringing Other Children
Caring for the pediatric patients scheduled in the PTC is our utmost priority. To ensure a quiet environment for those who don't feel well and for those recovering from a procedure, and to provide appropriate space for those receiving care, we request that you do not bring brothers and sisters to the PTC. Please be considerate of these other patients.
If you have a concern about your child(ren) coping with a sibling's illness, please contact a Child Life Specialist. For unexpected problems with childcare, we have Drop-In Childcare available for short-term supervision in Suite A. Children age 18 months to 10 years can be signed in by their parent if they do not have an acute illness (fever, cold, cough, etc.).
