  • The Pediatric Intensive Care Unit/Pediatric Cardiac Care Center (PICU/PCCC) is located in the building, so all of the hospital’s inpatients are co-located in one child- and family-friendly place.

About Us

Golisano Children’s Hospital is the only pediatric hospital in the 17-county Finger Lakes region.

Our eight-story, 245,000 square-foot facility—built with the input of families—opened in July 2015 and features private rooms, a colorful atrium with a fish tank, a two-story play deck, and a sibling club house.

In 2017, two floors were added with six new pediatric operating rooms and 23 private pre-operative and post-operative rooms.

More than 200 pediatric faculty—spanning more than 40 specialty areas—work for the hospital.

    Golisano Children’s Hospital at the University of Rochester Medical Center offers high quality health care for children and their families. It serves as many as 650 children in its clinics and 160 in its hospital.
  • More than 32,000 children visit our emergency department each year.
  • We are the referral center for all seriously ill or injured children in the region.
    With 124 beds, Golisano Children’s Hospital is the area's only children's hospital, and serves as the referral center for all seriously ill or injured children from the 17-county Finger Lakes region – though patients come from all 62 New York counties, seeking specialty care ranging from congenital heart defects and neurosurgery to lung disease and eating disorders.
  • Golisano Children’s Hospital is committed to treating all children regardless of their family’s ability to pay – and, as one of 170 North American children’s hospitals affiliated with the not-for-profit Children's Miracle Network, 100 percent of all locally-made donations stay to work locally.
  • With 1,000 admissions each year, our pediatric intensive care service is the largest in Western New York.
  • Golisano Children’s Hospital performs about 21,300 pediatric surgeries and procedures annually. The pediatric-use-only William & Mildred Levine Surgical Suite, has a family-friendly design and allows parents to be near their children almost every moment that they are not in actual surgery.

  • We are the only hospital in Western New York to perform pediatric cardiac surgery, performing 3,700 total surgeries each year.
    The hospital’s Children's Heart Center offers a full range of interventional procedures for patients with congenital heart disease – among them, arrhythmias, atrial septal defects and transposition of great arteries. The center sees more than 6,000 patients a year and provides the latest in technologies and techniques, including pediatric echocardiography services and a pediatric catheterization program.
  • One in 12 babies born in the region start their lives in our Gosnell Family Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
    The 68-bed neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is rated a Level IV facility – the highest in American Academy of Pediatrics and state designation and the only one of its kind in the Finger Lakes Region. Providing the best quality of care for sick and premature babies, the NICU admits 1,200 newborns each year – most of whom are born at Strong Memorial Hospital, which serves as the Regional Perinatal Center for high risk obstetrical service.
  • During the past decade, US News & World Report has ranked us as one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals in six out of 10 categories: endocrinology/diabetes, gastroenterology, neonatology, nephrology, neurology/neurosurgery, and orthopaedics.
  • Established in 2005 as the first in the Northeast, and continues in the new building, our Ronald McDonald “House Within the Hospital” allows parents to be close to their critically ill or injured child and gives families a place to relax, cook a meal, take a shower, or do a load of laundry.
  • The Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics (DBP) is a multidisciplinary program providing quality, individualized evaluations and services to families, community groups and professionals that care for children with developmental delays and disabilities. DBP houses the hospital’s autism program, which includes a nationally renowned group of specialists.
  • Only level 1 pediatric trauma center in the Finger Lakes and one of only five pediatric hospitals in the state with this designation.
  • Last year, more than 300 children were transferred from hospitals throughout the state to GCH for critical care – a record.
