School & Education Support
Golisano Children’s Hospital has a Hospital School Program that provides tutors to patients who have an extended hospital stay or chronic illness that causes frequent hospitalizations. Hospital Child Life Specialists are available to help facilitate this educational support.
CURE Childhood Cancer Association
CURE Childhood Cancer Association has programs to help support the educational needs of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology patients. School Packets are available from CURE’s Parent Advocate or the Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Social Worker. They contain valuable information and resources for educators, parents and patients that help ease the transition back to school after diagnosis, and address common education issues faced by students with chronic illness.
CURE’s Boost Tutors can provide extra help and encouragement by working with the teacher, parent and student to provide support in addition to what the school provides.
CURE’s Educational Consultant can help parents and students monitor learning problems and cognitive changes that can be affected by disease or treatment, consult on the appropriateness of school services and the need for 504 Plans or CSE referral, offer advice on how to make tutoring services more effective, and help parents advocate for their child at school.
