URMC is committed to attracting outstanding Primary Care physicians to the Rochester area. One way we are doing that is through our Loan Forgiveness Program for University of Rochester Internal Medicine residents who join URMC Primary Care practices.
In Brief
Starting July 1, 2014, University of Rochester Internal Medicine Residents are eligible for up to $150,000 in loan forgiveness when they choose a career in Primary Care at URMC.
Program Facts

The Loan Forgiveness Program is open to University of Rochester Internal
Medicine residents. - Payments will be made over 4-5 years with equal monthly installments.
- Program funds can be used to pay off both undergraduate and medical school debt.
- Physician must commit to five years of employment with URMC.

To be eligible, physicians must maintain employment of at least 0.6 FTE devoted
to Primary Care. -
Funds can only be used to repay educational loans from governmental or
commercial lenders. -
Physician must maintain a faculty appointment, hospital privileges, and
participation on local HMO panels.
