As the largest and most specialized hospital within New York's Western Region, the University of Rochester Medical Center is a teaching hospital comprised of three patient care centers: Strong Memorial Hospital, Golisano Children's Hospital, and the Wilmot Cancer Center. The Department of Radiation Oncology is located within the state-of-the-art Wilmot Cancer Center. In July 2012, work was completed on transforming the world class facility from a cancer center into a comprehensive cancer hospital, complete with 30 in-patient beds.

WCC is known as the leading institution for cancer treatment in this region, drawing patients from throughout the Northeast. Organized around a multi-disciplinary care model, the center brings the best and the brightest minds together under one roof, thus providing the most up-to-date scientific information and treatments available to patients.

In following the model of the nation's top cancer centers, in-patient and out-patient care, research, and teaching are now integrated under the same roof. The expansion of the Wilmot Cancer Center has undoubtedly created an environment conductive to providing the consummate in resident education, as the door is now opened for even greater clinical and academic opportunities to become available to our trainees.
