Program Overview
Large gatherings at special events such as air shows, concerts, fairs, festivals, athletic events and dignitary visits have an enormous potential to place a severe strain on the local health care system. The consequences of a major emergency (whether natural, man-made or terror related) is significantly amplified when combined with large crowds, restricted access points, insufficient public safety and on-site medical care. Preplanning for special events is key and should include the health care community.
The 2016 Western Region Health Coalition Emergency Management Workshop will provide participants with relevant information and best practice suggestions to better prepare for, manage and recover from incidents that could occur during special events.
Program Objectives
- Determine how hospitals, EMS agencies, and communities can prepare for large exposure events that can impact operations and patient care
- Learn from special event planners how they prepare and plan for large community events
- Identify how agencies, municipalities and event planners work together to address safety, security and emergency components
- Understand the NYSDOH Public Gathering requirements and learn how to integrate them into your event planning
Target Audience
Any healthcare professional and non-healthcare emergency planners (governmental and non-government organization emergency managers, law enforcement, fire service and mass fatality responders) who may play a role in a disaster that affects the health delivery system in the community.
