2024 Resident & Fellowship Graduation
June 21st at La Luna in Rochester marked a great day as the Flaum Eye Institute graduated four ophthalmology residents, two optometry residents, and celebrated multiple fellows.

The four graduating residents will be continuing their careers all across the country. Derick Ansah, MD, will be heading to the Wilmer Eye Institute (John Hopkins) for a cornea fellowship. Ansah also received the Resident Humanism Award. Phillip Braun, M.D., has accepted a faculty appointment at NYU/Mount Sinai hospital. Eric Chen, M.D., will be heading south to Baylor University for a Cornea Fellowship. Chen was also the recipient of the Surgeons Knife Award and was crowned the "Chief of Chiefs" by his co-residents for having done the best job during his 3-month stint as Chief Resident. Daniel Savage, M.D., Ph.D., will be heading to Moran Eye Institute (University of Utah) for a cornea fellowship. The Clinician Scientist Award was also given to Savage. Manasi Joshi, M.D., was named the Rookie of the Year, for being an outstanding first-year resident.
The graduation also marked the end of the inaugural optometry resident program. Elaine Ho, O.D., and Lydie Tubene, O.D., were the first graduates of the Flaum Eye Institute Optometry program. Ho will join Perlman Center for Eye and Eyelid Surgery in California, while Tubene is heading to Virginia to join Kaiser Permanente Medical Center.

Graduating fellows were also honored at La Luna. Orhan Altunkaya, M.D., is finishing a pediatric fellowship, before returning to Turkey. Ocular Genetics fellows moving onto the next step in their careers include Goura Chattannavar, MBBS, Tarek Shoala, MBBCh, and Kinza Abbas.
Flaum faculty were also honored at the event. Christine Coward, MD, received the Resident Gaurdian Award, Bayan Al Othman, M.D., the Mina Chung Award, and Rachel Wozniak, M.D., Ph.D., was honored with the Leadership and Career Inspiration Award, along with Naveen Mysore, Ph.D., M.D., who received the Dushay Teaching Award.
