Summer High School Volunteer Program Requirements for 2024

Monday July 8^th to Friday, August 30^th

• Students can call starting Wednesday, May 1^st after 9 am or email Joan_Vezelis@urmc.rochester.edu to sign up for one of our information sessions.
• General Information Sessions are mandatory (only one session required) and will be held at Highland Hospital on Monday May 20th or Thursday, May 23rd from 3-4:30pm in the Collins Auditorium. Please email Joanie Vezelis (email above) and let me know what session you will be attending.
• You need to be at least 14 years of age or older by July 1.
• You are responsible for providing a copy of your work permit if you are under the age of 18. Please bring a copy of your most recent work permit. These can be obtained from your school counselor's office.
• You must be comfortable working independently and with a minimum amount of supervision.
• You can commit to volunteering three to four hours per week for 8 weeks.
• Surgical face masks are required to be worn on all patient units.
• Please use only one single consistent email for all paperwork.
• Highland Hospital requires two varicella (chicken pox vaccines) to volunteer at Highland. NYS schools only require one vaccination. Please be advised if you have only received one vaccine, you will be required to receive a second vaccine from your Primary Care Physician before volunteering in our program.
• Potential volunteer opportunities include (but are not limited to) wayfinding (escorting patients/visitors to destination), Gift Shop, Patient units (experience dependent), Imaging escort, etc. Please note, final student placement will be at the discretion of Highland Volunteer Manager.
