Valentina Sedlacek 4th year medical student,
Elizabeth Brown, MD, MPH, at STFM conference.
Congratulations to Al Ogawa and Valentina Sedlacek, two fourth year medical students at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry, who were nominated by the Department of Family Medicine and selected as STFM Student Scholars. As a part of their scholarship, they both presented posters about their scholarly work. Valentina’s poster was entitled Extending the Reach of Family Physicians: Developing a Community-Based Health Promotion Program. Al Ogawa won a Blue Ribbon Award for their poster at the conference, and their work was entitled Recognizing the Resilience of LGBTQ+ Older Adults through Narrative: Culturally Connected Clinical Interviewing.
The STFM Medical Student Education Committee recognizes outstanding posters as selected by STFM peers. Each poster is evaluated independently by up to three reviewers. Reviewers assess the clarity of the introduction, relevance to family medicine medical student education, strength of methods, presentation of results, and discussion of key findings, limitations, and implications of the project, as well as the visual presentation, and overall effectiveness of stimulating viewer interest and communicating content. At this conference 80 posters were reviewed, and the top 10 highest scoring posters were identified by a blue ribbon.
