Gretchen Roman, PT, DPT, PhDAssistant Professor, Department of Family Medicine Research, Department of Public Health Sciences has been accepted as a mentee in the year-long (April 2023-2024) Society of General Internal Medicine, Partnered Research Program sponsored by the Veterans Administration Health Services Research and Development Service. She has also been selected to participate as a Fellow in the 23rd Annual Summer Institute on Randomized Behavioral Clinical Trials sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, Office of Behavioral and Social Sciences Research and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

She joined the Department of Family Medicine Research in January 2023 as an Assistant Professor with a joint appointment in the Department of Public Health Sciences. Her current work focuses on the occupational safety, health, and well-being of sign language interpreters in the kindergarten through twelfth grade (K-12) setting, the development, dissemination, and assessment of accessible mindfulness resources for deaf sign language users and comparing publicly funded occupational health clinic networks across the United States and Canada. Dr. Roman lives in Syracuse, NY with her husband, Mike. She practices yoga, enjoys hiking in the Arizona desert, and looks forward to collaborating on future projects with others in the Department!   

 

 

Photo of Sarah Marie Tiggelaar, MD, CLC, FAAFP, is Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and will become the director of the Maternal Child Fellowship

Sarah Marie Tiggelaar, MD, CLC, FAAFP, is Assistant Professor of Family Medicine and will become the director of the Maternal Child Fellowship starting in July. Her responsibilities will include attending on the Family Medicine inpatient service, FM maternity service as well as her own outpatient practice at Highland Family Medicine on Suite 200. She will precept residents at Jordan Health/Brown Square and provide prenatal care at Jordan Health/Woodward, as part of the longstanding maternity care provided to patients by Department of Family Medicine residents and faculty.

Dr. Tiggelaar previously served as Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis and Associate Program Director, University of Tennessee Family Medicine Residency. She is a graduate of Vanderbilt School of Medicine and completed her residency at Idaho State Univ (ISU) Family Medicine Residency, where she served as Chief Resident. She completed her fellowship at UT Family Medicine Women’s Health where she served as Junior Faculty with teaching and advanced OB training.
