The University of Rochester Highland Family Medicine Family Nurse Practitioner Residency Program has been awarded $2.4 million via the Advanced Nurse Education- Nurse Practitioner Residency Fellowship (ANE-NPRF) grant by HRSA. In combination with the support of Highland Family Medicine, Tri-County Family Medicine, HRSA and their clinical partners at the University of Rochester School of Nursing, this will allow the expansion and enhancement of the FNP Residency Program. In addition, this will enable the continued training of more Family Nurse Practitioners to practice in underserved settings by gaining the skills required to meet the needs of culturally diverse and clinically complex patients.

Since 2015, The FNP Residency Program has endeavored to help address the primary care healthcare shortages in the city of Rochester, Monroe County, and surrounding communities. In 2020, the Program partnered with Tri-County Family Medicine in the Southern Tier by means of the Advanced Nursing Education Nurse Practitioner Residency Integration Program (ANENPRIP) grant from HRSA.

The Program has national accreditation and is a member of the Consortium for Advanced Practice Providers, formerly, National Nurse Practitioner Residency and Fellowship Training Consortium and received reaccreditation in 2021 for an additional five years.

The FNPRP has graduated a total of 17 graduates, most recently, Brittany Vicente, who's staying on at HFM and Erin Douthit, who will be fulltime at Strong Internal Medicine, the Internal Medicine teaching practice based at Strong which cares for many historically marginalized persons and per diem with TCFM. Casey Bailey, who started January 2023, is expected to graduate at the end of December. There are currently two new NPRs, Junesung Cho and Bryanna Patterson. Additionally, we have two more HFM NPRs, Jessica Parish, and Diana Yunger and one TCFM NPR, Paula Ramirez will join in January 2024. Carissa Singh, DNP, and Luzann Ampadu, MS, FNP-BC, transitioned as co-program directors in 2021. They are very excited, grateful, and look forward to collaborating with everyone in the urban and rural communities.
