Dr. Alan Curle To Step Down as Medical Director of Perioperative Services in June

Alan E. Curle, M.D., FASA, Medical Director of Perioperative Services, UR Medicine/Highland Hospital, will be stepping down on June 30, 2024, having served as the department’s leader for more than 20 years. Dr. Curle, Professor of Clinical Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine, will continue to serve in a faculty position at the Center for Perioperative Medicine and as an anesthesiologist at Highland.

Dr. Saadia Sherazi is a hospitalist in the Department of Medicine at Highland, an Assistant Professor of Medicine is also a Site Co-Director for Medical Students and Sub-I Clerkship, University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry. In addition, she is on the Research Faculty of the Clinical Cardiovascular Research Center (CCRC). Her 13-page resume reflects a plethora of research she has written and presented. But she reveres being a hospitalist at Highland because bedside care and interaction with patients spur her drive to discover what patients want and need from the health care system and how she can help meet those needs.

New Pain Service Makes Great Strides

Many patients are benefitting from Highland’s new inpatient pain management consultation service.  Dr. Chin-Lin Ching, Director, Palliative Care Division at Highland and Dr. Rajbala Thakur, Director of Cancer Pain Services at URMC and Palliative Care Consultant, and their departments are working in collaboration to offer the service which is expanding advanced medication and procedural options to relieve pain. “Physicians and APPs from all subspecialties of surgery and medicine are utilizing the service for their patients with complex pain,” said Dr. Ching who gives examples with several success stories.

Lisa Lincoln, M.D., Attending Physician in the Department of Emergency Medicine at Highland Hospital and Associate Professor, Department of Clinical Emergency Medicine, University of Rochester School of Medicine & Dentistry has been named a New York State Emergency Medicine Unsung Hero. This designation is awarded to physicians for their work ethic, compassion, and collegiality.
