The Female Reproductive Tract Microbiome in Healthy Women and Women Living with HIV
In collaboration with Dr. David Adler and the Women’s Interagency HIV study, we are investigating how alterations in the FRT microbiome/virome in HIV positive and HIV negative women contribute to local and systemic inflammation and persistence of HPV strains.

The Enteric Microbiome/Virome in HIV-Associated Neurocognitive Decline
In collaboration with Dr. Giovanni Schifitto, we are assessing the influence of the microbiome, virome and microbial translocation from the gut on neurocognitive decline in subjects with HIV, both before and after short-term antiretroviral therapy to identify key viral or bacterial targets for future therapeutics.

Viral Contributors to Cancer
Cancer is a leading cause of global mortality. In collaboration with colleagues at the National Cancer Institute, we are using a unique patient cohort to determine if eukaryotic viruses or bacteriophage are predictive of later development of certain types of cancer.
