Anatomic Pathology
The Anatomic Pathology Division uses an interdisciplinary approach to provide consistent, accurate, timely and cost effective care. We provide these services at both Strong Memorial Hospital as well as our affiliated program at Highland Hospital.
Our faculty members are internationally known for their extensive research and publications, as well as for their presentations at conferences and events throughout the world. Our pathologists review more than 72,000 surgical specimens and 51,000 Cytopathology specimens per year.
We have an established sub-specialty practice in Surgical Pathology and an active Autopsy Service with over 230 cases per year. Each area also does extensive consultations on a regular basis.
Of special interest to physicians: Cases sent for consultation in Neuropathology, Cytopathology, Renal and Transplant pathology can be discussed by phone supplemented with real-time internet video transmission of microscope images.
Of special interest to patients: Fine needle aspiration (FNA) biopsies are performed in the Cytopathology suite, offering a less-invasive alternative to traditional biopsy. Muscle biopsies are taken in the Neuromuscular lab.
