Hematopathology
The Hematopathology, Bone Marrow, Cell Markers and Flow Cytometry section simplifies practice for doctors in our region. We provide pathologists with the type of collaborative support that they would expect when consulting colleagues in their own practice.
UR Medicine Labs makes specimen submission easier with a regional medical transport system. Fresh specimens are routinely received from throughout the Finger Lakes and Buffalo regions. The Flow Cytometry laboratory is staffed on Saturday, and a member of the hematopathology section is available 24/7.
For Patients
Patient Referrals to the Wilmot Cancer Center are sent through the Hematopathology Division so interpretation and diagnosis can happen quickly. This helps ensure rapid consultation and treatment.
Multicolor flow cytometry and genetic testing have become critical tools in the care of cancer patients. UR Medicine provides state-of-the-art technology in these areas.
Services
Diagnostic services include histopathology of nodes and marrows, flow cytometry (including analyses of CD34+ stem cells, lymphocyte subsets, immunodeficiency and paroxysmal nocturnal hemoglobinura, in addition to workups of malignancy), cytogenetics, molecular diagnostics, serum and urine protein electrophoresis and coagulation testing.
