Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine

Dr. Lauren Solan

Lauren Solan, M.D., Chief

The Division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine has significant roles in patient care, teaching and research.

Patient Care

Members of the division provide coverage for hospitalized patients on the general pediatric units of Golisano Children's Hospital. These services are housed within 3 patient care units: Adolescent Med (4-1400), Cardiac Step Down Unit (4-1600), and Surgical and Pediatric Hem Onc (4-3600).

In addition to coverage of the general pediatric care units, the members of the division also provide consultation on 4-1800, 4-9000 and 5-1200. The members of the division also provide co-management of patient care for surgical and other subspecialty services.

Teaching

Pediatric residents rotate through the division of Pediatric Hospital Medicine during all three years of residency. During this time they are exposed to family-centered care of general pediatric patients. Elective rotations are available to the residents and are individually tailored to the trainee goals. Medical students from both the required pediatric rotation and electives are an important part of the care team. Members of the division also serve critical roles in the development of the medical curriculum for the Pediatric Hospital Medicine rotations.

Research

Research activities center on clinical questions related to children with general medical diagnosis. Major current foci of Pediatric Hospital Medicine research include:

  • Treatment of pediatric malignancies
  • Pediatric resuscitation
  • Pediatric transport
  • Pediatric emergency medical services
  • Prevention and management of pediatric obesity
  • Management of hospital care of common illnesses such as fever and pneumonia
