Regulation of Endothelial-Neutrophil Interaction and Lung Vascular Permeability in ALI and Sepsis

Endothelial-Neutrophil Interaction and Lung Vascular Permeability in ALI and Sepsis This project seeks to clarify the mechanism by which Syk regulates endothelial dysfunction (inflammation and permeability) in ALI and to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of Syk inhibition (using R788 [fostamatinib], which has shown positive clinical benefits in arthritis) against evolving ALI in mice with sepsis.

Cell-specific Gene Therapy of mTOR in ALI

Cell-specific Gene Therapy of mTOR in ALI This project is focused on defining the mechanistic basis of cell-specific role of mTOR in ALI and developing a novel therapeutic strategy that relies on simultaneous but differential cell-specific modulation of mTOR signaling (i.e., increasing it in pulmonary endothelium and at the same time decreasing it in alveolar epithelium) against evolving ALI.

Mechanisms of Lung Vascular Autophagy and Inflammation

Lung Vascular Autophagy and Inflammation Our lab is using a systematic and comprehensive approach to uncover the mechanistic basis of endothelial cell autophagy and its relationship with endothelial cell inflammation and barrier disruption in the setting of ALI.
