Why Choose Our Program?
The Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program at Golisano Children’s Hospital/University of Rochester Medical Center provides comprehensive opportunities for training in the clinical, research, quality improvement, and educator skills required to become outstanding pediatric critical care providers. We are committed to maintaining a supportive, flexible, yet challenging environment with an emphasis on professional and personal balance.
Core Program with Individualized Opportunities
Our approach enables fellows to become outstanding pediatric intensivists, while at the same time customizing their training and scholarly pursuits according to their interest and career goals. Our program size permits an exceptional degree of fellow involvement in each case. Within the requirements of the Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program, we can modify fellow training to accommodate individualized needs and strengths, as well as hone learning to support a fellow’s specific professional interest.
Diverse Patient Population
Our patients present with the full range of medical and surgical critical illnesses, including the regional cardiothoracic surgery program. We collaborate and coordinate care with the full range of pediatric medical subspecialists and pediatric surgical specialties. We also serve a patient population with diversity across the sociodemographic spectrum.
Interprofessional Care
The PICU and PCCC (Pediatric Cardiac Care Center) promote interprofessional education and care with our team of residents, nurses, advanced practitioners, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, social workers, and child life specialists.
Fellows who have successfully completed a three-year ACGME-accredited specialty program in either Pediatric Critical Care or Pediatric Cardiology are eligible to apply for our Cardiac Intensive Care Fellowship.
We also offer a comprehensive one-year, full time Pediatric Neurocritical Care Fellowship. The program is the only one of its kind in New York State and draws from the University’s rich history of excellence in neurocritical care training. Fellows develop expertise in the management of neurocritical illnesses including traumatic brain injury, seizure disorders and status epilepticus, stroke, hypoxic injuries and more.
