Department Conferences & Meetings

The Department of Pediatrics hosts a variety of conferences and meetings that enhance clinical and research training, meet American Board of Pediatrics (ABP) and ACGME requirements, and give our fellows an opportunity to interact with well-established clinicians and researchers, both internal and external to URMC.

LEND Core Course

Weekly, During First Year

The Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) program core course, which DBP fellows attend in their first year of training, covers a broad range of interdisciplinary and systems-level topics. The curriculum includes didactic sessions and discourse led by LEND faculty, small group reflections, and experiential learning opportunities. The LEND program provides trainees with a variety of teaching and presentation experiences, leadership and advocacy skills development and adult learning.

Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics Fellow Seminar

Weekly

The DBP weekly Fellow Seminar is organized to ensure that all curriculum topics addressed by the DBP Board are covered over a 3-year cycle. Central clinical topics are covered at least annually. The Fellowship Program Director organizes and schedules topics based on the ABP curriculum requirements, with inclusion of pre-seminar reading options for each week. All faculty and fellows share in the teaching. Periodic clinical case review discussions and journal article presentations are also included.

Autism Assessment

One-Time Training

All fellows complete a 1-week intensive training in the administration of the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule-2 (ADOS-2) Assessment Tool during their first year of fellowship.

Research Basics

One-Time Training

All fellows will take the CITI Program online, 8-module course, entitled "Medical Residents and Fellows: Basic Principles of Research" within their first year of fellowship.

Academic Pediatric Fellows' Professional Seminar

Weekly, Optional

Professional development seminar run by the directors of the General Pediatrics Academic Fellowship. Fellows from General Pediatrics, Adolescent, Family Medicine, and DBP. Topics include such items as getting published, grant writing, how to run a research team, conflict management, professional negotiation, etc. Also provides opportunity to present own research and get feedback from peers/mentors.
