Education Opportunities
Individualized Learning
In addition to diverse clinical experiences, fellows develop their own educational roadmap that meets their individual career goals. Fellows’ unique interests are fostered by engaging in clinical, laboratory-based, translational, quality improvement, biomedical ethics or educational research. Fellows receive strong mentorship from well established faculty clinicians, clinician-scientists, and basic scientists who uphold core professional values and are successful in their own careers while maintaining work-life balance. In addition, fellows may obtain a master’s degree with a 95% tuition reimbursement benefit.
Simulation
Fellows participate in a wide array of simulation-based educational activities to hone their clinical, technical, communication, and teamwork skills. They train in interprofessional and interdisciplinary teams, both in simulation centers and in the clinical environment. In addition, they attain the fundamental skills to conduct simulations and team-based debriefings as instructors. These skills are developed further as they train to become NRP instructors. Learn more about the Simulation Program.
Be at the Forefront of Advances in Medical Education
Fellows participate in educational innovations that improve their engagement during educational activities and the way they learn through the introduction of new technologies and teaching methods such as the flipped classroom. Fellows who are interested in a clinician-educator career have opportunities to conduct faculty-mentored education-based projects and become involved with educational initiatives through national organizations such as the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Vermont Oxford Network, and ACGME (through the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry Innovator grant), as well as pursuing a master of science degree in Health Professions Education from the University of Rochester Warner School of Education.
