Summer Program Outline

  • Summer Program poster sessionThe SCRC Summer Program is a 10-week research program starting on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. The program ends on Thursday, July 31, 2025.
  • Each student in the program will work with a Principal Investigator (PI) and his/her research team to complete a research project by the end of the program.
  • The Summer Program offers weekly lectures covering topics on pediatric research, general research themes, career guidance.
  • Each student will be expected to participate in a student-led journal club with a faculty mentor.
  • Each student in the program must complete an abstract and a poster summarizing the findings of the project.  All participants also present at the Summer Program's poster symposium on the final day of the program.

Funding

  • Each Summer Program student is paid a $3,000 stipend for the summer. The stipend is paid in 4 equal installments on June 13, June 30, July 15, and July 31. If, for some reason, a student is not active in the program for part of the summer, the stipend is prorated. Students are responsible for any taxes owed on the stipend.
  • The SCRC does not cover the cost of travel to or from the program.
  • Students must have their own medical insurance coverage for the duration of the program.
  • On-campus parking is available for any student who wishes to bring a car to the Summer Program. The cost to the student is ~$12/week.
  • Access to a gym and other amenities are available for nominal fees.

Housing

  • On-campus housing is provided for Summer Program students. The apartment-style housing is located less than a 10-minute walk from the Medical Center and the SCRC Summer Program covers the cost.
  • Students are usually paired with another student from the program. Roommate assignments are announced by mid-May.
  • Each program participant will need to bring their own linens (extra long twin), blankets, pillows and towels.
  • Kitchens are available in each apartment. Summer Program students who wish to cook will need to bring their own cooking items, including pots, pans, plates, cups and utensils.
  • The apartments are not air conditioned. We recommend you bring a fan.
  • Each apartment offers free WiFi access available through the University's network. Access to the network is usually granted during Orientation on the first day of the program.
  • Parking is available in an adjacent lot for students who wish to bring their cars. The cost of the parking is ~$12/week.
  • The University of Rochester provides a campus shuttle bus service.  During the summer, there is also a campus shuttle service between campus and a mall, grocery store and shopping plaza in nearby Henrietta, NY. A University ID is required to ride these shuttles at no charge.
  • Smoking is not permitted on any University campus, including all of the University’s housing facilities.
