“All patients deserve a chance to lead their best life. I am here to help get them there.”

Areas of Expertise:

• Anorectal disease
• Benign polyps
• Colon cancer, rectal cancer, anal cancer and appendiceal cancers
• Complex reoperations
• Diverticulitis
• Inflammatory bowel diseases such as Crohn’s and ulcerative colitis, including pouch procedures and redo pouches
• Minimally invasive surgery including laparoscopic, robotic and transanal surgery

I have a particular interest in the delivery of and access to colorectal surgery and was drawn to this field because of amazing mentors that showed me the complexities and enormous breadth of practice that colorectal surgery encompasses. From the multidisciplinary care of colorectal cancers and inflammatory bowel disease to just a screening colonoscopy, good surgery will always be the cornerstone of excellent outcomes for my patients.

Rochester is my hometown and my values are deeply rooted in the culture of the city. I have always wanted to give back to the city and people that made me who I am. University of Rochester Medical Center is a hub for complex multidisciplinary care of colorectal cancers and benign colorectal diseases in the region and I want to help patients access our world- class care more easily. I look forward to being home and caring for the Rochester community.

Dr. Xu is absolutely wonderful! He takes his time with you and genuinely appears to care about you as the patient. Rarely have I met surgeons with such great "bedside manner" and I'm a nurse.
