Dr. Kaplan listens very well. He has at all my appointments and I count on that. He looks directly at me and gives me his full attention. He repeats the information I've given him to be sure he understands my needs. He gives me information additional to what I currently have to help me understand my condition better. He suggests options and doesn't make me feel pressured to choose a particular option. He explains things in a way that a non-medical person can understand. He asks me what I think and what I would like to do and makes me feel very involved in and in control of my health decisions. I recommend him to anyone I know who is having unresolved hip and/or knee pain.

The doctor answered the questions I had. I was pro-active. Yet, there was no particular pro-active initiation of explanation on the part of the doctor. Don't get me wrong: I do like the doctor. But the way the process is set up assumes agency on the part of the patient that the patient may not have do to lack of knowledge.

Dr. Kaplan was not offended by my questions regarding more x-rays and was most generous with his care, time, and helping me to understand my aging condition. Best experience I've had with a Dr in a very long time. Side note - I am a long hauler covid survivor for 17 months with a long list of doctors that I never had before so finding a doctor like Dr. Kaplan was a breath of fresh air (no pun intended !!)

Dr. Kaplan performed a right hip replacement for me in July 2021. I can't offer enough gratitude to him and his staff for their superior work. The whole procedure came off without a single hitch from beginning to end. Being Dr. Kaplan's patient has been a privilege. His bedside manner put me at ease through the whole process. Should I need further surgery from him in the future, I would not hesitate to ask him to work on me again. I also have similar comments about his entire staff including the nurses, assistants and physical therapy. This was a job well done!

My PCP recommended I consult an orthopedic surgeon about X-rays I'd had that revealed osteoarthritis in my hip. I was very concerned about where the conversation might lead - to a discussion of hip replacement surgery. After my visit with Dr. Kaplan, I felt very knowledgeable about my options and confidently made the decision to proceed with surgery. Dr. Kaplan explained the options very thoroughly, made sure I understood them, and put me in charge of making the decision I needed to make to improve my overall health and quality of life. I am realistic about the preparation for the surgery, the surgery itself, and the recovery from surgery and know that if I have concerns or questions, Dr. Kaplan and his staff will make sure I have the information I need. I have heard many good things about Dr. Kaplan and look forward to recommending his care to others.

I do feel he is ready to close the appointment (as I am sure he is incredibly busy) sooner than I am. If I had not asked to see my xrays, I do not think he would have taken the time for that. He is always thorough and kind in his explanation and suggestions. I was sorry that the visit notes I read on my chart after described my ranges of motion and incision appearance. Neither of these things were discussed and there was no hands investigation of either during this visit.
