About Me

As an Orthopaedic surgeon with the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Rochester, I specialize in partial and total primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. As an Orthopaedic surgeon with the Department of Orthopaedics at the University of Rochester, I specialize in partial and total primary and revision hip and knee replacement surgery. I have special interests in preventing joint deterioration before surgical intervention, optimizing outcomes following joint arthroplasty, and the broad spectrum of simple to complex hip and knee conditions requiring arthroplasty or salvage procedures.

In my practice, I give top priority to the physician–patient relationship and patient education. My goal is to build trust with my patients so they feel comfortable with me as their surgeon. I want to ensure people understand their diagnosis, as well as the necessary steps for the road to recovery.

Among my many interests, I am proud to serve as the Diversity Officer for the Office of Medical Student Inclusion & Enrichment Programs. Serving as team physician for the Baltimore Orioles at Camden Yards was an exciting opportunity. I have a strong appreciation for fine arts and jazz, and enjoy spending time with my lovely wife and children.

Dr. Balkissoon was very attentive, kind, thorough and spent whatever time was needed to go through everything. (I didn't feel rushed at all). I wouldn't want another doctor than him to perform my surgery. He was recommended to me, and I'm thankful they did. I can't say one negative thing about Dr. B.

Dr B is a Doctor's doctor/ mentor to all: answered my concerns and questions in a professional manner with clinical detail from a team model ....nurse was exceptional In answering my concerns in detail/( My Chart) and In a quick/ timely manner; after reading the notes of my x-rays/results from My Chart . In reading the assessment it felt like I was close to getting cancer or needing a new replacement on the one knee ...I feel very confident with Dr B and Dr B's orthopedic team for ongoing treatment, after being transferred from (retired) Dr Rouse's team. ...I have made several referrals to Dr B's Team.....And to be noted: team has a fine sense of humor which works toward a positive relationship with the whole medical and patient team and U of R, and....... Immediately lowers one's blood pressure (white coat syndrome). :) I am a loyal U of R patient of many years and will continue to be....
