My passion to help the Hispanic community, particularly that diabetic patients receive adequate podiatric treatment, remains the primary reason for me becoming a podiatrist.
At UR Medicine, I help people get back on their feet, so they can go back to doing the activities they enjoy. I specialize in the treatment of bunions, hammertoe, foot and ankle sprains, general foot and arch pain, foot fractures, arthritis, nerve related issues, and diabetic foot ulcers/limb salvage surgery. I have extensive experience in the treatment of foot and ankle conditions and perform elective and reconstructive foot surgery. I am also specially trained in reconstructive rearfoot and ankle surgery as well as foot surgery.

Not everyone needs surgery. I offer my patients individualized treatments make the most sense for them personally. I pride myself in offering my patients surgical or nonsurgical options when appropriate. As a board certified podiatric surgeon, when surgery is needed, I thoroughly explain the procedure and what they can expect afterward.

I have presented and published numerous articles on topics related to podiatric care and surgery. I have also co-authored a book on low limb muscle reconstruction surgery. I am native in both English and Spanish languages. As a Research Associate for the University of Rochester, I worked in Rochester’s inner city to decrease asthma symptoms among school-aged children. In doing so, I saw the need for Podiatric care within the Hispanic community.

I am board certified by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

She was very down to earth and explained everything in detail. She showed me a website for shoes and even gave me tips on how to navigate the website. She didn't try to talk me into surgery based on the size of my bunion (21!!!). I could make a well-informed decision after my visit with her.

Dr. Hernandez was very cold, uncaring personality! Seemed to hate her job and seemed very rushed/Bothered! Almost no communication what so ever maybe said 1 sentence the entire time. She [...] seemed to be angry or hurried! When she first came into the examination room she never introduced herself even though we have never met her as this was our first appointment there. She coldly asked why we were there I explained to her that my daughter had double ingrown toenail on her big toe 1 on each side of the toe. She said what foot even though my daughter had both her feet uncovered and it was obvious what foot and toe as the toe was very red and swelled, [...] She definitely was not sympathetic or encouraging in any way. She left to get the needle and at that time my husband whispered to me that he didn't like this doctors personality. [...] My husband was so upset that he walked out and sat out in his car. I stayed for the rest of the procedure. The doctor walked back in and said she should be numb enough let's get started. She never once walked us through what to expect. Thankfully my daughter was numb and didn't feel anything [...]. The doctor said all done. Started to get up to leave and I'm like wait what do we do now and I was asking about after care instructions of what to put on it and how long to keep the bandage on ect she did answer my questions and hurriedly walked out. I'm not sure if she was late for her next patient or not but that's what I felt like. My husband was furious over everything but I did say to him she is human she might be having a bad day we all do at times so maybe that's why she was like that. Well when we got home my husband looked up reviews on her and this seems to be normal for her. Many reviews saying she cold, disinterested, hurried [...]! When you tell a doctor that this is your first time dealing with this issue [...] and the doctor isn't sympathetic or even walk you through what she is doing to make my daughter more comfortable with being there shows how little this doctor cares. Because of this it made my daughter have even more anxiety about needles and going to the doctor! Needless to say we will never go back to her and will never recommend her!
