Family Therapy Training Program
Our program emphasizes strength-based and culturally-attuned approaches to individual, couple, and family therapy, based on a biopsychosocial approach across the lifespan.
A rich, multi-disciplinary context prepares well-trained clinicians who can work in a variety of traditional mental health care settings, private practice, school-based, and integrated healthcare settings.

Opportunities for students to work closely with clinical faculty, supervisors, and staff therapists to provide students a broad range of experience with a diverse client population representing the needs of the Rochester community.
Students will receive training in the major approaches to individual, couple, and family therapy conceptual and clinical models. They will learn theories of individual and family development across the life cycle, basic family research, and professional ethics as a relational systemic clinician with a focus on self-of-the-therapist and lifelong learning.
Our 60-credit degree program, accredited by COAMFTE, prepares entry-level therapists through didactic coursework and clinical practicum experiences in two 12-month site placements at our onsite Strong Family Therapy Services clinic as well as offsite community placements.

Our program provides training for professionals who already have an advanced degree and are interested in specialty training in family therapy theory and clinical practice.
Our Annual Intensive (MFTI) provides training for professionals interested in health care and mental health collaboration when working with patients and families dealing with illness, health concerns, and trauma.
Our faculty are well recognized for their innovations in developing integrative and interdisciplinary approaches to the treatment of a broad range of presenting concerns in a diverse array of settings.
