MS in Marriage and Family Therapy
Graduates of our MS in Marriage and Family Therapy Program leave with a depth of MFT knowledge and skill to competently practice as relational systemic professionals serving diverse communities with cultural attunement, self-reflection, and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Students entering our MS in Marriage and Family Therapy Program will be exposed to the major family therapy conceptual and clinical models. Based in the Department of Psychiatry, within the University of Rochester Medical Center, means our students are embedded in a clinical practice site/hospital vs. a college campus type setting.
This setting provides the unique opportunity to learn about mental health and families in a collaborative interdisciplinary context. Students complete yearlong clinical training at two practicum sites concurrently in their second year: several Rochester community-based clinical sites complement our onsite NYS Office of Mental Health regulated clinic, Strong Family Therapy Services.
Practicum students receive weekly individual and group supervision at each site from AAMFT-approved supervisors or supervisors who are equivalently trained to provide relational systemic supervision.
