Pulmonary Nodule Clinic

CT scan showing pulmonary nodulesPulmonary nodules are spots in the lung up to 3cm in size. Greater than 3cm and the spot becomes a mass. Nodules are fairly common and are often found accidentally on imaging done for other reasons. Nodules have a wide range of causes, with the challenge being determining which nodules are cancer.

The UR Medicine Pulmonary Nodule Program seeks to provide evaluation, management, and treatment of patients with lung nodules. Our mission is to determine if someone has cancer as early and as safely as possible using minimally invasive procedures. Importantly, if you do have cancer, we also provide ongoing care to help you manage the symptoms related to your disease that can develop during and after treatment.

Our program is led by Michael Nead, MD, PhD, FCCP and is part of a multidisciplinary team comprised of highly trained pulmonologists, thoracic oncologists, thoracic surgeons, thoracic radiologists, and pathologists. As a team, we work together to offer cutting edge diagnostics and treatments for patients with pulmonary nodules and cancer.

While we emphasize evidence-based medicine and use internationally developed and recognized guidelines, we also believe that each patient is unique and has specific needs. We collaborate to customize evaluation and treatment to each person to provide the best possible care.

Our Locations

Our main clinic dedicated to lung cancer screening and nodule evaluation and management is located on the third floor of the Acute Care Center (AC3) at Strong Memorial Hospital, which is also where all of our diagnostic and therapeutic procedures are performed. The Mary Parkes Center for Asthma, Allergy and Pulmonary Care at our Red Creek office also offers lung nodule and lung cancer screening services.

We have compassionate, highly skilled providers, a collaborative environment, and a wealth of resources available at the University of Rochester Medical Center. We look forward to helping patients in need of evaluation and management of their lung nodules as well aggressively pursuing lung cancer screening, diagnosis, and management.
