Showing Our Appreciation for Front Line Staff via New Coffee Initiative
Friends of Strong is launching an initiative to provide complimentary coffee to front line staff during the month of June—chipping in $1,000 of seed funding to begin rolling deliveries of the much-appreciated refreshment to units and teams on Wednesday, May 27.
“Our staff have gone above and beyond in their service to our patients and their families as we’ve all navigated these challenging circumstances,” says Sandy Arbasak, director of Friends of Strong. “This seemed like a practical way for us to show our appreciation for their hard work, especially given that we’ve heard from many of them who miss their usual Finger Lakes brand coffee.”
Contributing to the Proverbial Coffee Pot
Wanting to extend the coffee initiative beyond a single day, Friends of Strong also invites those who are looking for a small way to show their appreciation to contribute to the proverbial coffee pot with hopes that additional support from throughout the community can keep the coffee flowing during the whole month of June.
You can contribute to this effort to show appreciation to our front line staff via giveto.urmc.edu/coffeedonations.
The impact of each gift serves a double benefit for patient care. Contributions provide a hot cup of fresh, locally-roasted coffee to our hard-working staff, while also supporting ongoing patient-centered care at the hospital.
Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters will donate a portion of these catering orders back to the hospital via Friends of Strong Memorial Hospital’s annual allocations, which help provide enhanced services for patients, such as music and arts therapy via the Eastman Performing Arts Medicine program, Nursing Continuing Education Scholarships, and Baby Safe Sleep infant swaddles for every baby born at Strong.
How It Works
With support from Ambassador Services, coffee deliveries will be provided by Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters as they begin to re-enter the hospital space starting with catering services. The coffee deliveries will be made to different units on different days, ensuring equitable distribution throughout the hospital. The Finger Lakes stands will remain closed at this time.
Update 8/28/2020: Deliveries are now made with support from the Department of Food and Nutrition Services. Finger Lakes Coffee Roasters' Main Lobby and School of Medicine and Dentistry locations at the Medical Center are now open with limited hours. Main Lobby operates 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. M-F and 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on weekends; SMD Café operates 6:30 to 11 a.m. M-F and is closed on weekends.
