Share the Warmth: A Coat Drive for Patients in Need
Help us provide a warm coat to patients in need. In anticipation of the cold Rochester winter that lies ahead, as well as great success last year, Friends of Strong is again teaming up with the Emergency Department to host a winter coat drive for adult male patients awaiting discharge. Many women’s coats are on-hand from last year’s drive—although men’s coats remain an urgent need.
Friends of Strong Welcomes Record Number of High School Students to the URMC Family
Thirty-one departments and units across Strong Memorial Hospital answered the call and, this week Friends of Strong welcomes its largest cohort of summer high school volunteers in the program’s 29 year history. Ages 14-18, 311 ambitious young students will spend the next eight weeks enhancing the patient care experience. Read more about some of the stand-out kids joining the URMC team this week.

That reality changed the way we train our front-line staff to respond to such events. And it also won national recognition from the American Heart Association.
Friends of Strong, URMC Recognized for Unparalleled Support of Red Cross Blood Drives
Since 2006, Friends of Strong has sponsored 433 blood drives at various URMC facilities in our region, allowing the American Red Cross to collect 23,972 red blood units and help more than 72,000 local patients. As a result of their long-standing commitment and sponsorship, FOS and URMC have been named recipients of the 2019 Samuel J. Stabins Blood Services Award.
