From Patient to Volunteer: Richard Perez Receives National Award for Excellence in Public Service
Long-time Friends of Strong volunteer and liver-transplant recipient, Richard Perez, was chosen as one of only five unsung heroes from across the nation to receive the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Award for Outstanding Public Service—recognizing 15 years of his public service as a champion for Organ Donation and Transplantation, as well as being a source of comradery and support for fellow transplant patients and volunteers at Strong Memorial Hospital.

A 12-year ongoing collaboration between Friends of Strong and the residents of Legacy at Willow Pond senior living community in Penfield, N.Y. provides more than 16,000 hand-made teddy bears to help provide comfort for children at UR Medicine's Strong Memorial and Golisano Children's hospitals.
