Mental Health Services Available Through Well-U
Accessing mental health services can be confusing. Where can I go? Do I need a referral? What treatment options are available, and what does my health care plan cover? These are the types of questions we often hear at Behavioral Health Partners (BHP). Please take a moment to read this Blog and learn more information about BHP mental health services.
If you are enrolled in a University health care plan, you may be eligible to receive mental health services at BHP.
BHP is a mental health resource for the University of Rochester’s eligible employees. Eligibility for BHP includes regular full-time and part-time faculty and staff age 18 and older enrolled in a University Health Care Plan, as well as spouses/domestic partners and dependent children of active employees or non-Medicare eligible retirees who are 18 or older, and enrolled in a University Health Care Plan.
What types of services does BHP provide?
BHP services include a range of short-term therapies for mental health concerns such as stress, anxiety, and depression. Our clinical team can provide psychotherapy, discuss the possible role of medications, and prescribe as needed, or they can consult with your primary care physician about your medications. BHP clinicians tailor the length of treatment to the mental health concerns of the individual.
Because BHP is a benefit, you do not need a referral to call and schedule an intake.
What conditions are not treated at BHP?
Our services are designed to provide short-term care for individuals with stress, anxiety, and depression. We do not treat conditions such as ADHD, obsessive-compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, personality disorders, or eating disorders. If during your phone screen or intake appointment we determine that you would benefit from a different type of service we will do our best to help connect you with appropriate resources in the community.
How much will it cost me to be seen at BHP?
YOUR PPO Plan: There is no out-of-pocket cost for services at BHP (Services received through BHP are not subject to the $20 co-pay per visit). You will not be billed for any services received here.

What do I need to do in order to schedule an appointment at BHP?
If you’re interested in receiving services at BHP please don’t hesitate to call to schedule an intake appointment. One of our team members will be happy to take your call at (585) 276-6900.
What should I expect at my first appointment?
You will be asked to arrive early to your appointment in order to allow for time to complete our intake paperwork. Once this is complete, you will meet with a member of our clinical team for an intake assessment and you will be asked questions about your overall wellbeing, any symptoms you have been experiencing and about the history of your mental and physical health. The purpose of your first appointment is to evaluate your current needs and to develop a treatment plan to help reduce your symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression. This plan may include services at BHP including therapy and/or medication management. If we are not able to meet your needs at BHP, you will be provided with appropriate referral sources.
What if I am interested in being seen at BHP for medication only?
It is possible to be seen at BHP for medication only. When you call to schedule your initial appointment be sure to communicate that you would like to be seen for medication only. You will then be connected with our nurse to further discuss your request.
