Our legacy of excellence and advocacy in healthcare, research, and community service is driven by the desire to make successive generations of children enjoy better health, happier futures, and safer more productive communities.

We are dedicated to training the next generation of physicians and scientists. Both structured and unstructured opportunities are woven into the educational experiences of trainees at all levels.

Pediatric Grand Rounds

Community physicians can earn CME credit for attending any Pediatric Grand Rounds presentation at either the University of Rochester Medical Center or Rochester General Hospital. Presentations are available online with many being available for CME credit.

Fellowships

We strive to train clinically superb intensivists who are well versed in managing critically ill children, conducting research, and teaching.

Our Pediatric Critical Care Fellowship Program is structured so that trainees spend time in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with our team of intensivists, in the Pediatric Cardiac Care Center (PCCC) with cardiac intensivists, with anesthesiologist in the operating suite, and are involved in research each year.

Pediatric Advanced Life Support

The PALS Program is designed for healthcare providers who are involved in the care of critically ill children. The PALS curriculum consists of both didactic sessions and skill stations. The program is designed around the Evaluate, Identify, and Intervene model.

Pediatric Residency Program

Each resident in the Pediatric Residency Program benefits from training received from experienced critical care faculty and fellows who teach, publish, give presentations, and who are nationally-recognized leaders for their clinical, education, advocacy, and research work.

Pediatric, Medicine/Pediatric, and Emergency Medicine residents in their second and third years of training have the opportunity to care for patients in the PICU under the direct supervision of the attending intensivist. An elective in the pediatric cardiac care center is also available.

Medical Students

The pediatric sub-internship is a broadly based experience, which allows students to assume primary responsibility for patients under the direct supervision of second- or third-year residents, fellows and attendings. Pediatric Critical Care (PICU) rotations and sub-internships are popular learning experiences for medical students.
